What is a Hall Effect (HE) Keyboard?

A Hall Effect keyboard uses magnetic sensors instead of physical metal contacts to register a keypress. This allows the keyboard to measure the exact position of the switch at all times, leading to faster response times and features like adjustable actuation.

Are Hall Effect keyboards compatible with mechanical switches?

No, Hall Effect keyboards are not compatible with standard mechanical switches. Regular mechanical switches rely on metal pins that complete an electrical circuit when pressed. In contrast, HE keyboards use magnetic switches that interact with sensors on the PCB. Because the internal architecture is fundamentally different, you cannot swap standard MX-style switches into an HE board, or vice versa. You must use specialized magnetic switches designed for Hall Effect technology.
